I am trying out Bamboo (MTE-450A) That I borrowed from a friend. It is one of the cheap ones and also a bit old. Anyway. I get good results with it, considering that my skills are almost not present ;) I think you won't regret getting any of the wacom tablets.
Do you happen to know the exact name of the tablet you were using? There's a lot to choose from XD
